Summer Fest features Motown to Mozart
Starting June 6th the 2009 Music in the Mountains Summer Fest will once again bring the foothills alive with the sounds of a variety of music, both indoors and outdoors. One of the highlights of this year’s event is the June 12th Tribute to Motown featuring Spectrum, twice voted Las Vegas’ best lounge act. Summer Fest wraps up with a July 3rd Salute to America’s birthday. Most all Summer Fest concerts take place at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. Community Event Gershwin Brothers remembered in 1930’s setting
On June 13th and 14th, at The Center for the Arts in Grass Valley, Sierra Sirens Productions will pay homage to one of the greatest American songwriting teams with “Rhapsody in Blue, The Music of George and Ira Gershwin”. The Gershwin brothers leave behind a wonderful musical legacy of classic familiar tunes, such as “Summertime,” “The Man I Love,” “Someone to Watch Over Me”, and “Embraceable You”. Together they composed over two dozen scores for Hollywood and Broadway, including the Pulitzer Prize winning “Of Thee I Sing,” and also co-wrote the opera, “Porgy and Bess”. This will be a vintage event, styled as a 1930’s lounge, complete with martinis, cocktail waitresses, and twinkling lights. The show is produced by The Center for the Arts in conjunction with Sierra Sirens Productions, a local production company made up of Nevada County’s own Lorraine Gervais and Brielle Morgan (pictured). This is the fifth show for Sierra Sirens Productions, having recently celebrated their “standing-room only” success, “Tangled and Dark, a Tribute to Bonnie Raitt.” Reserved table seating is $35.00 advanced, available only at the Center for the Arts box office, 314 West Main Street,

Now through October: Empire Mine Tours. Learn about Nevada County’s rich gold history with a visit to the historic Empire Mine on Empire Street in Grass Valley. Community Event Gershwin Brothers remembered in 1930’s setting
On June 13th and 14th, at The Center for the Arts in Grass Valley, Sierra Sirens Productions will pay homage to one of the greatest American songwriting teams with “Rhapsody in Blue, The Music of George and Ira Gershwin”. The Gershwin brothers leave behind a wonderful musical legacy of classic familiar tunes, such as “Summertime,” “The Man I Love,” “Someone to Watch Over Me”, and “Embraceable You”. Together they composed over two dozen scores for Hollywood and Broadway, including the Pulitzer Prize winning “Of Thee I Sing,” and also co-wrote the opera, “Porgy and Bess”. This will be a vintage event, styled as a 1930’s lounge, complete with martinis, cocktail waitresses, and twinkling lights. Now through October: Empire Mine Tours. Learn about Nevada County’s rich gold history with a visit to the historic Empire Mine on Empire Street in Grass Valley. Tour the Bourn Cottage, garden area and mineyard. On weekends volunteers dress in 1905 attire in the cottage. Admission is $3.00 for person 17 and over, $1.00 for those 6 to 16, and under 5 are free.
