Here’s a great way to help of Friends of Hospice. On Saturday, September 11th, the non-profit group will be presenting an event called “Side by Side”, a captivating evening of wine, food and song. The event will feature Jane Rivar, international awardwinning songwriter, storyteller and performer. Rivar will present a magical evening of story and song at the River Highlands Ranch and Vineyards in Smartsville from 5:00pm until 9:30pm. Music will be provided by Ivan Najera. Guests will enjoy catering by Antonio, featuring dinner-like appetizers, local wines and dessert bar. There will also be a live auction. Contact Friends of Hospice at 274-5121 or visit their web site at www.hofo.org and click on the Friends of Hospice button. The 11th Annual Roamin’ Angels “Cruisin’ the Pines” Car Show will take place at the Nevada County Fairgrounds on September 11th and 12th. The show is expecting over 850 vehicles, 1972 and older. This year’s show will also feature Bill McAnally’s NASCAR Camping World Series race
car and Joe “Candy Apple Red” Bailon, the man who invented candy-apple red paint and built custom cars for many Hollywood movie stars. There will also be numerous auto-related vendors, a Car Corral of special-interest cars for sale, an Artisans’ Faire, a car art exhibit, as well as a variety of foods and drinks that include beer and wine. On Saturday there is a pinstriping exhibition and for the kids, a Hot Wheels gravity drag for a cash prize. Trophies will be awarded during Sunday’s show. Show times are 8:00am to 9:00pm on Saturday and 8:00am to 3:00pm on Sunday. Tickets are $5.00 for adults, which covers admission to both show days and children under twelve are free. There is a $5.00 fairground parking fee. Congratulations to the Dan Casillas Family of Penn Valley on being named Family of the Year by the Nevada County Fair’s Board of Directors. The Board chose the Casillas Family because of their ongoing participation in the Nevada County Fair and their ongoing commitment and support of Nevada County agricultural youth programs. Dan and wife Beth have been active in the Fair and youth agriculture programs since they moved to Nevada County in 1995. Their children, Emmalee and Manuel, have also been actively involved in the Fair for many years. The Casillas Family was honored at opening ceremonies of the Nevada County Fair. Speaking of the just completed Fair, Huell Howser, pictured with Fairgrounds General Manger Sandy Wood, of the PBS program “California’s Gold” spent a day at the Fair sampling various foods on Treat Street and interviewing individuals from the various non-profit organizations. Howser also spent time filming the Fair’s Gold Path, the tall pine trees, and the Draft Horse monument at the front of the Fairgrounds. Howser’s visit to the Nevada County Fair will be one of 12 episodes of his new PBS series entitled “California’s Golden Fairs” which is expected to air next spring.

Here’s a great way to help of Friends of Hospice. On Saturday, September 11th, the non-profit group will be presenting an event called “Side by Side”, a captivating evening of wine, food and song. The event will feature Jane Rivar, international awardwinning songwriter, storyteller and performer. Rivar will present a magical evening of story and song at the River Highlands Ranch and Vineyards in Smartsville from 5:00pm until 9:30pm. Music will be provided by Ivan Najera. Guests will enjoy catering by Antonio, featuring dinner-like appetizers, local wines and dessert bar. There will also be a live auction. The 11th Annual Roamin’ Angels “Cruisin’ the Pines” Car Show will take place at the Nevada County Fairgrounds on September 11th and 12th. The show is expecting over 850 vehicles, 1972 and older. This year’s show will also feature Bill McAnally’s NASCAR Camping World Series race
car and Joe “Candy Apple Red” Bailon, the man who invented candy-apple red paint and built custom cars for many Hollywood movie stars. There will also be numerous auto-related vendors, a Car Corral of special-interest cars for sale, an Artisans’ Faire, a car art exhibit, as well as a variety of foods and drinks that include beer and wine. On Saturday there is a pinstriping exhibition and for the kids, a Hot Wheels gravity drag for a cash prize. Trophies will be awarded during Sunday’s show. Show times are 8:00am to 9:00pm on Saturday and 8:00am to 3:00pm on Sunday. Tickets are $5.00 for adults, which covers admission to both show days and children under twelve are free. There is a $5.00 fairground parking fee. Congratulations to the Dan Casillas Family of Penn Valley on being named Family of the Year by the Nevada County Fair’s Board of Directors. The Board chose the Casillas Family because of their ongoing participation in the Nevada County Fair and their ongoing commitment and support of Nevada County agricultural youth programs. Dan and wife Beth have been active in the Fair and youth agriculture programs since they moved to Nevada County in 1995. Their children, Emmalee and Manuel, have also been actively involved in the Fair for many years. The Casillas Family was honored at opening ceremonies of the Nevada County Fair. Speaking of the just completed Fair, Huell Howser, pictured with Fairgrounds General Manger Sandy Wood, of the PBS program “California’s Gold” spent a day at the Fair sampling various foods on Treat Street and interviewing individuals from the various non-profit organizations. Howser also spent time filming the Fair’s Gold Path, the tall pine trees, and the Draft Horse monument at the front of the Fairgrounds. Howser’s visit to the Nevada County Fair will be one of 12 episodes of his new PBS series entitled “California’s Golden Fairs” which is expected to air next spring.
